Social distancing: Are we accepting the acceptable death rate?

    Dear colleagues,

With the relaxation of social distancing and reopening of the economy, many opinions published reference an "acceptable death rate." The majority of my patients are in the higher risk category with diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.  I'm having difficulty reconciling the notion of "permissible deaths" with the oath I swore during commencement.  There are a number of publications specifying at risk individuals, but few strategies to prevent infection among this population.

What protocols do you/your institution have to protect your high-risk patients as the social distancing measures are relaxed? Are there any publications about the value of continued Telehealth, staggered appointments, clinic workflow, specific guidance for patient overlap, what should/shouldn't be in rooms, ventilation etc?   Focus on prevention of disease in the vulnerable?

    Thanks so much!
